Steering problem on my Mk3 VW Golf it has Power steering.?
My vw golf mk3 has developed a steering problem. I have replaced the pads and the disks all round. It seems to be pulling to the left and gets worse as the speed gets to ariund 60 mph. I have had the wheels balanced and the tracking done. Why is it doing this any ideas. The tyres ALL have 30 p.s.i of air in them as well. It is a 1997 year model
if the problem came up just after change rotor and pads, the left pulling can be that the left piston is stuck or doing some preassure against the pad. try this before take your car at the garage:
1- Open brake fluid cap a little (not completely open, just a twist to let it breathe)
2- remove the caliper and pads (left side)
3- pump the brakes just a little.
4- apply brake or carb cleaner directly in to the piston (do not use WD-40).
5- Open vacuum valve and pump brake ounce (bad sign if the the fluid not drain out of the valve)
6- If you loss some brake fluid, proceed….
7- use a caliper/pad spreader to force the piston back against the caliper (u can use a C-clamp). DONT TRY TO USE A HAMMER.
8- re-arm the pads and torque the caliper bolts to 20 ft/lbs max, if you dont have a torque wrench, that means not too tight.
9- pump breaks 3 times.
ounce you finish with this you must bleed the entire brake lines, this is very important cause for sure you got some air in the lines.
